returning with renewed force after henning baer�s unbreakable debut lp, manhigh�s sixth release comes from a name already well-known in techno circles. sciahri is the italian producer whose luminous 2014 debut on the celebrated ilian tape�s itx experimental series immediately announced his presence, followed by another on the label and two eps for the highly-rated black opal offshoot of opal tapes by 2016. he was simultaneously occupied with his ambient-leaning unknot duo with emanuele porcinai, better known as wsr on samuel kerridge�s contort label. 2017 saw the launch of his sublunar imprint and a tripartite release from him featuring a more streamlined sound than the craggy broken-beat style familiar from ilian tape. sciahri�s manhigh ep opens with �demur�, showcasing his most dour, industrial sounds, scraping metallic highs against the unrelenting impacts of reverberating kicks and subbass drone. �forbidden� holds its forces more in reserve, the cycling, mechanical soundscape maintaining a spacious, ambient aspect, worked against a broken rhythm more implied than explicitly stated. returning to full intensity for �reliance�, he tightly coils the core elements around deftly-deployed percussion and a militaristic, pounding rhythm in the bass and kicks. henning baer�s reinterpretation of �demur� saves little from the original apart from its overriding tension, instead adding a layer of nearly-tonal pads and an unremitting acidic bass throb pushing forwards inexorably.

weapons of mass destruction was one of the last eps by nur jaber , which is best known in berlin for its residence at the techno-matinee staub . this could be heard slammender, dry techno with sometimes disturbing vocals � hope sounds different. more precisely: hope sounds like the first longplayer of the native lebanese. if only � a state of peace still carries a conditional in the title, but the music on the nine tracks speak very directly of a better world. inspired by the herbaceous-cosmic sound of the berlin school, ambient and ambient techno in all its facets and the friendlier side of the artificial intelligence tradition, the osf unites-mit operator on their debut album a variety of styles, which are translated into an equally sensible as multi-layered narrative. peace, that would be something for a change.

real name takeshi fukushima, takecha has been a key figure within japan�s electronic music scene for decades and belongs to the same pioneering crew as soichi terada and shinichiro yokota. now in his mid- fifties, �deep soundscapes� is an album encompassing fukushima�s sound with every track written by the producer between 1990 and 2013. intricate percussion and crystalline chords set the tone in �deep drive� before a funky bassline joins serene synths in �midnight things�. appearing in soichi terada�s mix for resident advisor (under its promo title �deep loop c�), �gradual atmosphere� is comprised of a galloping beat and saccharine chimes, �factory 141� sees takecha demonstrate a murkier aesthetic, whilst �rhodes detox� is a definitive example of takecha�s flair for expertly balancing elements within his productions. an homage to shufflepuck cafe&#769,,, an old mac plus video game takecha would play on a black and white 9- inch monitor back in the day, �shufflepuck� blends ghostly melodies with clicks, whirrs and pops. �calm imagination� is a poignant affair from start to finish with its hypnotising atmosphere, contrasting to the more up-tempo �warm rondo� with its soulful keys and purring low-end. tying it all together, �genuine innocence� is a cut that takecha made two versions of, one with a solo from a pianist and another with more emphasis on the beat, the latter of which appears on this album.-

a new optimo music disco plate and the debut release from feon. when these tracks first came my way i instantly knew they were ripe for a release on the label. original, idiosyncratic, full of imagination and featuring a couple of dancefloor hits, how could i resist? �also, �the sun is high� was surely destined to become a sun-blissed summer anthem.

next up on out-er is inland, aka ed davenport, an artist who has long been a friend of the label and whose powerful techno sound is a perfect fit. his three originals come with a remix by tresor and tiercel artist bnjmn.

the first track on annas debut ep for novamute , razor was born while playing with her roland mks-80, a synth from 1985 and one of annas favourites. you can hear the fat, juicy sound on the breakdown and ever evolving throughout. the track has already been getting a great reaction when played out in her sets. escapism plays with trippy arpeggios that lay down the atmosphere for the whole track, it feels really dense and trippy but still powerful, making use of heavier drum sounds for the groove. the last track on the ep dreamweaver, is a simple track that always works well on the dance floor. anna reworked this track many times before deciding to strip down the beat and focus on the final sequence, sometimes the simple ideas are the ones that work the best.

italian club staple and producer kaiser turns to moc for his debris ep, showcasing three agile techno slices and a remix from exploration records chief johannes volk. �parachute� opens up the release in a spellbinding, energy-heavy manner, with its whirlwind groove and lead taking no prisoners. next up is �debris�, showing off an equally energetic prowess channeling zig zagging synths and a more melodic, yet still heavy strung bassline. �esplosione di colori�, translated as �color explosion� aptly translates into sound what is usually only possible for a paint canvas. a lighthearted, arpegio-ridden track in original, johannes volk works his magic, turning it into a versatile piece of raw, dubby techno.

hybris is a state of dissoluteness, of loss of control, of greed and of lustfulness. following that motto, wice takes his listeners on a journey through a hybristic process on his second steinlach ep, which chooses an enchanting and euphemistic entrance into hybris with absent (no aggression). gentle pads create a peaceful and dreamy world that is turned into a fascinating landscape of sound by trippy drums and dopey synths and so pushes wide open the gate to hybris. the threateningly booming hb11 then finally enters the state of hybris: synths and drums pump adrenaline in heads and bodies, dancing turns into greed, the complete lack of control sets in. that lack of control riots towards its peak with the eponymous hybris, which tears the listener in technoid and gritty manner into the abyss of hybris and holds him captive down there. hybris is followed by nemesis, the divine punishment ending in death: wice interprets this transition towards nemesis with hertz, a playful and breaky good-night kiss, which feels pretty damn good and resonates bittersweetly.

word of advice to funk lovers, there is not a minute to lose. get on board of the big hustle�s spaceship. before we take off, let s do a little history. the band was founded in 2014 by bass player and composer sébastien levanneur and its aim is to bring together 70 s old school funk with the hippest actual sound laced with influences spanning from steely dan and headhunters, to snarky puppy and soulive. with mighty horn players, a rock and funky rhythm section, the big hustle s music has a very large variety of soundscapes. the first destination takes us to the washington, d.c. area with �turn up�. the groove is clearly go-go music flavored with the trademark sound of cowbells and of course it reminds us of zapp by the use of the talk box on lead vocals, performed here by saad el garrab. and don t miss out shaun martin (snarky puppy, erykah badu, kirk franklin amongst others) as a very special guest performing the talk box solo! second stop is �a curse, a blessing�. it�s an instrumental very much in the freddie hubbard vein during his cti years. the last leg of the a side ends with an instrumental interlude titled �flying donut�. double tribute to jay dee and flying lotus, the music is a simple hip hop loop based on samples. the b side takes us back into the past with two brilliant covers, involving rod temperton the late great british songwriter who scored some of michael jackson s biggest hits. now the idea for this b side is to do the opposite approach from the a side. taking 70 s and 80 s original music and make them travel into time to 2018. we first land with a heatwave song named �the star of a story� from their 1976 central heating album. track 2 is a herbie hancock song named �gettin to the good part� from his 1982 lite me up lp. this time traveler ep journey ends with an interlude. called �gimme dat�, the song deals with the need of new music, new sound. again, this blend of deep rooted funk laced with a contemporary edge is to be consumed without moderation. and do not forget that e.p. also stands for extended pleasure.

faitiche is delighted to release a short version of the radio play zwischen (german for �between�). devised and produced by jan jelinek for german public broadcaster swr2, zwischen brings together twelve sound poetry collages using interview answers by public figures. each collage consists of the brief moments between the spoken words: silences, pauses for breath and hesitations in which the interviewees utter non-semantic sound particles. these voice collages also control a synthesizer, creating electronic sounds that overlay and merge with the voices to make twelve acoustic structures.

transit valley is the debut release by joe coghill, a multi-disciplinary artist, musician and experimental publisher based in edinburgh. his practice incorporates sound, video, performance, social sculpture, facilitation and media distribution. borrowing from multiple spheres of influence, his scattered output operates from a liminal position. coghill works in an improvised and often haphazard way, incorporating disparate field recordings, modular synthesis and other sonic ambiences to create unpredictable and ephemeral multi-layer audio-visual performances. alongside this coghill has been producing music recreationally in his various bedroom studios over the past 14 years

!k7 are pleased to announce forest swords as the next curator of the ever essential dj-kicks series. following acclaimed albums on ninja tune and tri angle, soundtrack and installation work, and remixes of the likes of bjork, matthew barnes aka forest swords has curated a 25-track compilation that draws a line between past inspirations and his current peers. like much of his own output, his dj-kicks skirts around pristine electronics and embraces more organic textures: 80s post punk (anna domino, dead can dance), classic 90s british electronica (orbital, mira calix), and smokey digi-dub (rhythm & sound), all rub up alongside some of the most forward-facing producers working today (demdike stare, laurel halo, fis). the compilation sifts through rhythms, shifting speeds and emotions: from pop icon neneh cherrys primal thudding to the zombified throb of exclusive forest swords track crow via deena abdelwaheeds clattering deconstructions to the euphoric two-step of djrum. its a collection of tracks that feels as restlessly curious and weighty as barnes own work. the double vinyl release includes a download code.

under the tree in the cave at the water, there�s where youll find eleventeen eston savouring the shade since his 2014 debut lp delta horizon turned the spotlight his way. taking shelter in the subterranean, the perth musician has found a sound saturated with entheogenic splendour, growing something gorgeous from the grotesque. finding a natural home on hamburgs growing bin, eston emerges into the daylight with a dreamy lp.

mihai popescu kicks off a new label, steppin motion records, with two of his own brilliant tracks. the romanian artist has been a key part of the scene since 2012, releasing on labels like soulsity, rora and bass culture. he has a slick electronic sound that is here for all to here on these two new cuts.

steppin motion is a record label based in paris and managed by swoop. it aims to promote music as an art, as something beautiful that gets your body and soul in motion. this first ep is in two parts, showcasing both sides of the label: the first part is the most dance oriented, whereas the second part will be more soul / beauty oriented. the amazing artwork comes from vesod, who is an italian street-artist painter from turin.

selfsuficient is first and is ten minutes of slippery house music with lovely chords and melodies all making for a warm and infectious groove. it is colourful, loose and rhythmic stuff that oozes a futuristic sense of soul. neasteptat is deeper, with rubbery drums and woodpecker like sounds all weaving round each other to cast a spell on those who hear it.

these are two terrific tracks that connoisseurs of minimal house are going to lap up.

eshu, the production collective and record label from nijmegen are back with their next offering. their 12th release is a various artists release that features blm, joburg and steven siwalette alongside label members ivano tetelepta and jocelyn abell. it comes on the heels of teteleptas absorbing dub techno album, senang, and is another high class offering. nijmegen based siwalette is first, previously contributed to the label as part of sys. his stragglers is a sparse but atmospheric track with industrial drones and slowly turning drums taking you through a desolate factory late at night. his second offering is alien encounter which is just as it sounds - a spooky, unsettling bit of cinematic sound design with menacing bass and icy pads all growing in loudness until they eventually consume your mind. lastly on the a-side, uk producer and fear of flying label boss blm lays down a skeletal groove thats embellished with beautiful, yawning synths. scattered little details and fx making this a cavernous piece that encourages your mind to wander and get lost. on the flip, jocelyn abell and ivano tetelepta cook up a heavyweight, mid tempo bit of dub techno with sharp hits and rolling kicks lulling you into a trance. last of all, the emerging j?burg picks up the pace with a perfectly chiselled bit of rock solid dub with looping drums and icy hi hats sinking you deep into its midst. this is an excellent ep that packs in a range of fascinating sounds for both the home and the club.

throughout ibadan records deeply-rooted new york history and its ongoing transcendent surge into the future, there are certain special moments in house music history to acknowledge. this brings us to our 138th ibadan records installment by kerri chandler. kerri chandler was one of the many artists who benefited from jerome sydenhams artistic direction. the two initially met in 1991, when sydenham was a part of the a&r team that signed chandlers debut single to atlantic records. after sydenham founded ibadan records in 1995, the two collaborated on several groundbreaking projects that stand as a testament to house music history and to their long-lasting friendship. chandlers early career evolved through illustrious house remixes and productions. tracks like drink on me, shoe-b-doo, while were young and aint that a bitch truly exemplify the trailblazing and original innovative spirit of kerri chandler and the birth of his signature sound. presenting new york chronicles vol. ii

dj vas is back with another killer volume of his re-edits & more series! dj vas is primarily known as a member of pioneering 90s french house band, kojak. when the 1.0 french touch wave was blowing the world, kojak was one of the fourth most popular acts in france alongside daft punk, air or cassius. now more focused on his solo career, this talented dj, producer and sound engineer maintains a stylish wide musical vision, and manages to find the perfect balance between styles. for this specific project, he practiced the very special game of soul-funk and disco edits. following the success of his prior efforts (edr017, edr018, edr022 & edr024), dj vas is back on edr records, pursuing the series with this fifth edition: 4 new tremendous reworks, finely cut and re-produced in complete new versions, and filled with this classic french touch twist! his production is a brilliant mix between fine techniques, deep respect of the originals and real personality. in short, dj vas music is contagious, warm and always sharp!

osaka based producer 7fo. having previously released a cassette on rvng international, and a 7inch single on bokeh versions in 2017, this is the japanese producers debut full length vinyl release. the tracks, recorded between 2012 and 2017, have been tweaked, remastered and recorded to vinyl for the first time. the mysterious figure recorded the tracks at home, processing guitar sounds, using a sampler, synthesizer and junk equipment. following in the footsteps of the ambient giants of his native lands, 7fo�s music continues this illustrious heritage whilst offering something fresh, modern and beautifully rendered. he describes his own sound as gorgeous sustained tones and dreamlike oscillations that drift through the inorganic/electronic world reverberating through our subconscious creating sonic fables in our minds. the 12inch comes with artwork designed by label head & visual artist jack hardwicke. to accompany the release greek filmmaker george kountouras, who also collaborated on the artwork, has directed a gorgeous video for the title track moment

pushing movies is a collaborative project from jeffrey sire and dimitri soemotional that celebrates the vintage tones of italo disco, synth pop and all things slick and 80s. -thinking about you- does indeed sound like it could have been made 30 years ago - from the slap bass to the reverse drum fills, plastic fm synth lines and overall aspirational tone, it s the consummate extended 12- mix track. lauer takes the original and smacks it up sharp with some tougher drums and a greater sense of urgency, and then fort romeau takes a subtle approach that keeps much of the original spirit of the track intact while honing the edges for maximum club play and using some cosmic synth flourishes to devastating effect.
